More than 15 million Americans meditate regularly.

A study (2005) at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston demonstrated that the brains of people who meditated six hours a week on average had thicker gray matter in the area responsible for decision-making, attention and sensory processing. Another recent study suggested that brain waves of meditators are more active in the area associated with happiness and optimism.

After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) reported that 90% of Americans turned to religion as a way of coping with stress. That finding echoes many national surveys about the prevalence of religious participation among Americans, particularly those 65 and older.

The medical scientific community is just beginning to understand how personal religious belief systems affect well-being and health. "In the last 10 years it's become more and more evident that there is a positive relationship between religion and health," - Harold G. Koenig, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University author of some of that research. According to him religious people are happier, more hopeful, recover easier from illness and adapt better to changes that come with aging or challenging situations... religion, or any spiritual pursuit promotes a positive attitude toward aging. This increaseing evidence testifies that this attitude will, in fact, help to extend life.

Cosmetic surgery has been almost the only option for the pro-aging population. But, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of face-lifts declined 4% between 2005 and 2006. Beverly Hills plastic surgeons have noticed a shift - about 25% of the patients just want to improve what they already have. There's a growing opinion among the maturing subpopulation not to be obsessed with the extreme look, rather look "natural". Part of this is due to new options cosmetology offers. In 2006, almost 9 million Americans opted preferred to accept minimally invasive procedures - scalpel-free procedures, without any scars and "absentee" from the open world. People progressively shoose to resurface their skin with lasers; for lines and wrinkles - injectable material and Botox.
